Vera J. Csikos, formerly a longtime resident of the Boston area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 in Fort Myers, Florida, Shellpoint Hospice, at the age of 85.
Vera is survived by her two daughters, Susan V. Csikos (Oscar R. Fernandez) and Judit Csikos-Lamb (Gregory Lamb) and their two daughters (Vera’s granddaughters) Jessica Lamb and Danielle Lamb from Holliston, MA. Vera is preceded in death by her husband, George J. Csikos who passed away in 1988 and her daughter, Catherine Csikos, from New Bedford area, MA. who passed away in May of 2018.
Vera was born in Budapest, Hungary on September 1, 1933 to Lajos Horvath and Ibolya Horvath (Kovacs). The late 1930’s and early 1940’s were difficult times in Hungary as it was one of the epicenters of WWII. In the 1950’s, Vera attended the Technical University of Budapest and secured her master’s degree in mechanical engineering. It was at this university that she met her husband to be, Gyula Csikos, a recent graduate of electrical engineering. They married in 1956 and arrived in New Jersey in late December that year as one of the first political refugee groups, as a result of the 1956 Hungarian revolution.
Vera was much admired by her family, friends and peers for her intelligence, strength of character and sense of humor.
A celebration of life will be planned in the Boston area in Spring of 2019 where memories of Vera will be shared by her loving family and friends.
