Samuel Attard

Tribute

Sam was born in Rabat, Malta on December 23, 1937, son of Paul and Maria Dolores Attard. Along with his family, he immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1950. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany while serving in the U.S. Army and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1958. He was a graduate of Detroit Western High School and the University of Michigan. He retired from the Detroit News as a composer and proudly served as President of the Detroit Typographical Union Local #18 of the Communication Workers of America. He was a staunch supporter of workers’ rights.

Sam retired to Satellite Beach, Florida where he was very active in volunteering for the Satellite Beach police department and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He received many awards for his service during his 17 years that he lived there. Sam was an avid reader and loved to write poetry. He was always willing to offer a lending hand to friends and family.

Sam is survived by his children Christopher (Leslie) Attard, Ann (Mark) Cromika, Steve (Samantha) Attard and Daniel Attard, as well as his grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) Slane, Thomas Bradley, Nikolas (Donna) Cromika, Emily (Eric) Bentley, Samuel Attard and Keith Attard. He has also been blessed with great grandchildren Dawn Cromika and Weston Bentley.

Sam is also survived by his siblings Terise (Tom) Okasinski, Ted (Cindy) Attard, Marie Antoinette (Dan) Weirich and Paul Attard. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Emmanuel Attard.

Sam will forever be remembered by his family and friends as hard working, caring and a man of strong work ethic.
