RON MYRICK, 74



Ronald “Ron” E. Myrick, Sr., 74 of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Ron was born July 16, 1943 in Louisville, KY to Charles and Lillian Myrick. He graduated cum laude from Loyola University Law School (Chicago). On July 31, 1965, he married Lynn Kessack in Louisville, KY. 

Ron had technical degrees in electrical engineering and digital technologies, and an extensive background in aviation, physics, mechanical engineering, construction, and various other fields. He earned many aviation and maritime certifications, including the FAA’s Air Transport Pilot rating and the Coast Guard’s 50-Ton Vessel Master license, and held a current FCC Amateur Extra license. Ron had a medical background as a licensed EMT and became a volunteer pilot for Angel Flights. He served as President of several major intellectual property law associations, including AIPLA and IPO, and held several senior posts for other organizations including the American Bar Association. Internationally, he served as President of the global AIPPI.

Ron taught on the adjunct law faculty of the University of Connecticut as well as Suffolk University in International Business Transactions and European Union Law, and represented IPO in a case before the European Court of Justice. He headed the IP Advisory Committee for the Franklin Pearce Law Center (now the University of New Hampshire Law School) for many years. He has traveled the world extensively, published a five-volume treatise on international litigation as well as numerous papers on a broad range of subjects, and has spoken all over the world. He was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce as a founding member of the Patent Public Advisory Committee of the USPTO.

Ron is survived by his wife, Lynn Myrick of Fort Myers, FL; his daughter, Amy Ruocco and her husband Bryan Ruocco of Marblehead, MA; his two sons, Ronald Myrick, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Myrick of Dover, MA, and Andrew Myrick and his fiancée Danielle Sheehan of Los Altos, CA; three grandchildren, Claire Ruocco, Andrew Ruocco, and Tyler Myrick; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and sister. Ron and his wife Lynn have lived in Pelican Preserve since 2005.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, April 5 at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, FL. Father Bob Tabbert will be officiating. Friends and family will be received at St. John XXIII between 10:00-11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
