Margaret M. Gemme, 99, died peacefully at her home in Estero, Florida on September 27, 2019. Margaret, known as Peggy to many, was born in Hartford, CT on May 7, 1920 to the late Equilas (Joe) and Lydia DeForge. She was pre deceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Rene (Brownie) Gemme and her daughter Jacqueline Margaret Gemme. Margaret graduated from St Anne’s Academy in Marlboro, MA and worked for the State of Connecticut Housing Authority for many years. The Gemme’s moved around Connecticut, raising their five children while Brownie was a builder/developer. After retirement, the Gemme’s moved to North Fort Myers in 1991 and then to Estero in 1998. Margaret kept busy in the community where she lived, volunteering at Cape Coral Hospital and Pinewood Elementary School as well as gardening around her home, playing bridge with “the girls” and hosting visits from her extended family.
Margaret leaves behind her son Robert Gemme and wife Gail Perkins-Gemme of Orleans, MA; son Paul Gemme and wife Maureen Ross Gemme of Windsor Locks, CT; son Charles Gemme of Paris, France; and daughter Deborah Kerstetter of Vernon, CT. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Kristin Lavitt, Brenden Gemme, Jessica Dimock, Umiray Faizi, and Matthew, Timothy and Nicole Kerstetter; plus 20 great grandchildren and many more nieces and nephews.
