Majorie Anne Gilbert

January 29, 1925 ~ November 12, 2021 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

Marjorie Whitehurst Gilbert, born in Fort Myers, September 29th 1925, passed peacefully in her sleep on the evening of Friday November 12th 2021. She is survived by her two sons, her daughter in law, grandchild, many friends and one loyal family dog; all of whom will miss her greatly. She was the Drum Majorette for Fort Myers High and later attended junior college outside of Washington DC where she danced with the midshipmen at Annapolis and with the cadets at West Point and hosted at the local Stage Door Canteen during World War Two. A wife, and beginning in 1952, a mother, she was a homemaker for many years but also traveled widely across the world and was an enthusiastic participant in both politics and local social life when back in her “home base” of Fort Myers. When her children were older, she joined the Lee County School System and worked a full career as a school administrator, acquiring her Master’s degree in the process. In later life she met and married her Fort Myers High School sweetheart, Bob Gilbert, to the delight of them both and all who knew them. Widely admired, highly accomplished, fiercely intelligent, sophisticated and stylish; we were all lucky to enjoy her company in this life for as long as we did. Rest now in peace, after a long, remarkable and rewarding life. (A small Family memorial will be held in the near future.)
