John Edward Yarish, 88, died peacefully on October 10, 2020, while in Hospice care in his community in Fort Myers, Florida.

John was born on July 9, 1932, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His parents were Theresa (Wentzel) and John Yarish. John had two siblings, a sister Wilma and a brother Stanley, both of whom predeceased John during their adult years.
During John’s younger years he enjoyed his three motorcycles and two Austin Healey sports cars. He also attended trade school to become a millwright and was employed by E. R. Squibb & Sons (now Bristol Myers Squibb) in New Brunswick, NJ. John retired from Squibb after 40 years of dedicated employment. John also enlisted in the US National Guard where he served for 14 years.
John married Marlene (Lotysh) in April 1955. Marlene lives in Fort Myers, FL. They have two daughters: Clarice Rankin and her husband Ian “John”, who reside in Fort Myers, FL, and Avis Hammond and her husband Steve, who reside in Long Valley, NJ. John also has four grandchildren: Sharon List, Jennifer Orlofski, Denise Hahn and Cindy Edwards. He also has been blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Thorsten, Desmond, Lydia, Daphne, Nathaniel, Simon and Alyse. John is also survived by two nephews: Edward Yarish and James Yarish.
John was an avid skier. He was on the Ski Patrol and was a ski instructor for 20 years. He also enjoyed playing his guitars, dancing with Marlene, gardening and growing vegetables, chopping wood for the wood-burning stove, weight-lifting, walking, and various construction projects including finishing a vacation cabin in the Pocono Mountains where John and his family spent many summers, and in the winter months enjoyed skiing. John’s daughters also remember with special fondness the week each summer when their dad would take them to Squibb Day-Camp to play with other “Squibblets” doing crafts, movies, games and playground activities. It was a week they cherished because they were “going to work” with their Dad.
John spent most of his life in New Jersey. When he retired, he and Marlene became “snowbirds” to Florida, eventually becoming Florida residents. He and Marlene are extremely blessed to have settled in Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers, Florida, where John received exceptional care and comfort during his final days. John’s family is so thankful to all the staff of the Connected Living assisted living memory care facility at Shell Point. Those folks, as well as the Hope Hospice folks, went above and beyond anything John’s family could have imagined in caring for John and his family.
