Tribute

Joanne Grace Drake (Arpasi), age 90, of Fort Myers passed away in peace on February 16, 2021, surrounded by her five loving children. She was preceded in death by Tom Drake, her beloved husband of 69 years, who died on April 7, 2020.

Joanne (Joni), was born on October 15, 1930 in New London, Ohio to George and Gizella (Papp) Arpasi. She was the last of their 10 children and also the last of her immediate family to rest in eternal peace.

Joanne Drake showed unparalleled strength, courage and amazing positivity
during a 20 year battle with cancer. Her love and devotion for her surviving
family, daughters: Alison Drake and Jodi Drake McDaniel, sons: Drew Drake, Dalton Drake and Dyer Drake made her proud and kept her smiling, laughing and greeting each new day as a blessing.

She shared her love with daughters-in-law: Julie Drake and Elisabeth Brannock, and son-in-law: Marc Harris; grandsons: Tyler McDaniel, Bradley McDaniel, Wyatt Drake and Dylan Drake; and granddaughter Landen Drake.

Joanne is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews; including granddaughter-in-law Chasity McDaniel, and great grandson baby Easton McDaniel along with great granddaughter Aubree McDaniel, each who added youth and undeniable joy to her long beautiful life.

Joni Drake was a stay-at-home mom. She unselfishly chose to devote her life to her family and became a teacher of life, self-confidence and personal responsibility to them. She was chief chef and never missed a shift, never. She was also the family nurse, a compassionate listener and always there to dispense invaluable advice. Every family birthday, holiday, celebration, vacation or recreational activity was taken head-on with loving skill and always included her favorite ingredient, fun. She juggled it all and never missed a beat. She was amazing. Even as an empty-nester, Joni cherished hosting family get-togethers and those occasions remained a constant tradition through-out her life. Everyone came. Family, friends, food and fest welcomely greeted those who entered her home.

There is no memorial service scheduled at this time, however, as an expression of care and in lieu of flowers, The Drake family requests that donations be made to Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, for the lifesaving care of children in our community.
