Judith Jeanette Daugherty

January 11, 1940 ~ October 10, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Judith Jeanette Daugherty, 77, of Cape Coral, FL, found peace from her brave battle against ovarian cancer on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Judy was born on January 11, 1940 in Onawa, Iowa. She is the loving daughter of the late Howard Paul Zortman and Helen Bernice Zortman. She was raised on the family farm just north of Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1958. Judy married Tommy N. Daugherty on August 30, 1958 and shared 59 wonderful years together.

Judy began her career as a cosmetologist in 1960 and traveled throughout the country winning many hairstyling awards and competitions. In 1975, Judy and Tommy moved to Cape Coral, FL to have a new beginning in the Sunshine State. They opened their first salon, “The Cut Hut”, in 1976 in downtown Cape Coral. Their success just kept expanding with salons in Sanibel, the Rafter’s Mall, and the Bell Tower through the years. She continued to train with some of the best in the industry including Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon. Most recently, Judy had her studio salon off Park Meadows drive which she loved and was able to enjoy for 20 years. Judy was an absolute master at hairstyling and color. She had such a passion for her work and her clients became family to her. Throughout these past 5 ½ years of her battle against ovarian cancer her work provided her focus, comfort, and support. Judy was a true artist, could bring out such beauty in others, but most importantly, she touched more hearts than hair.
Judy is the beloved wife of Tommy N. Daugherty. She is the devoted mother of Matthew Thomas Daugherty and his wife Kim and Melinda Ann Hall and her husband Keith. The cherished grandmother, “JUJU”, of Jacob Matthew Daugherty and Gavin Avery Hall. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Landra Zortman and brothers, Jerome and Jason Zortman. In addition to parents, she was proceeded in death by an infant sister, Jaqueline Zortman and brother, John Paul Zortman.

Through the years, Judy enjoyed boating, going to the beach, swimming, traveling, cooking, and decorating for the Holidays. Her favorite things to do were watching her Grandson, Jake play football and her Grandson, Gavin play baseball. These two boys were her pride and joy. Spending time with family and friends was always first and foremost in her life.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and celebrate her indomitable spirit and beautiful life on Sunday, November 12th from 1-4 pm, at Rumrunners Restaurant at Cape Harbour.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Judy’s memory to St. Joseph Indian School, P.O. Box 326, Chamberlain, SD, 57326. Due to her Native American heritage this was always a charity very dear to her heart.

She left a lifetime of imprints on the hearts of others that will always remain.
